Mako set-up

overview

Surgical preparation begins with the MPS bringing the Mako System into the OR, appropriately positioning and connecting the components, and powering the system. After powering the system, the MPS will initiate pre-surgery checks.

The MPS will then load the case plan and, together with the OR staff, help prepare the instrumentation.

The sterile staff also perform the following actions:

  • Pre-surgery checks
  • Draping the system
  • Attach the base array

There are three components to the Mako System: the robotic-arm, the guidance module, and the camera.

pre-surgery checks

Pre-surgery checks must be completed prior to use of the Mako System. All checks must pass successfully prior to bringing the patient into the operating room. The patient must not receive anesthesia prior to complete and successful pre-surgery checks. Selecting ‘Pre-Surgery Check’ opens a series of utilities run by the MPS prior to the case. They include:

  • Arm status check
  • Homing
  • Combined accuracy
    • Camera accuracy
    • Arm accuracy
  • Brake check
  • Angle discrepancy
  • MICS status check
